Not all heroes are perfect.

Aia and Teveres hold the powers of life and death in their hands, and for most of their lives, they have tried to hide it. As members of the assumed-extinct Deldri class, they are blessed and cursed with the ability to protect their people from those that would harm them. When the leaders of their homeland are captured, the corrupt high priest of the capitol city assumes control, and the warring Kaldari people break through their borders, Aia and Teveres are thrown together on a futile mission to end the conflict...if they can only set aside the tragedies of their pasts.

This novel is written for an adult audience and contains adult language, depictions of substance use, and violence.

This is a wonderful book written by a great first time author. I normally don't go for the science fiction type book. I hate trying to figure out how to pronounce the made up names of worlds and people.. ( I have no imagination really..)
I got the chance to read an early copy of this book, and I must say I really got sucked into the story and can't wait for the sequel! The author's attention to detail with the charachters is wonderful. I feel like I really got to know Aia and Teveres like I was there with them on their journey.
Thank you to the Author for the chance to read an early copy!

Tragedy Forsaken Lands Book 1 eBook Sydney M Cooper Reviews

I loved this book. I thought about it at length when I wasn’t reading it. I feared for its characters. I lost sleep and many breaks at work pouring over its pages. It’s been a while since I felt this way about a novel, despite my voracious reading habits.

The characters are rich and vastly complicated we have Aia, who can heal and read minds, Teveres who can kill with a thought, Les who has the power to extinguish light and Garren, a Kaldari with no obvious powers but who follows his sense of duty. I loved (and sometimes hated) them, especially Teveres who has as much to loathe as to love about him. There was also a pleasant surprise in the form of a GLBT character in a book that’s not specifically targeted at that audience. I’m always happy to find diversity in genre fiction and I hope to see more of that character’s arc in the next book.

The plot is captivating, with a few scenes so heart and gut wrenching I teared up a few times in company. I was surprised by the ending, but be warned there is no resolution. This novel ends on a cliffhanger which left me salivating for more and desperate to learn the fates of characters I fell in love with. I can’t wait for the sequel, which is on my must-buy list for sure.

The writing, spelling and grammar is good overall, but the book probably could have used one more proofread. The occasional sentence feels like its missing a word here and there, which made me reread one or two passages to make sure I was understanding what was being said. It’s really hard to root out every error and Tragedy is a lot better in this department than a lot of self-published novels. It didn’t detract from my enjoyment.

If you’re looking for a good fantasy novel to sink your teeth into, with deep, interesting characters, Tragedy should be right up your alley. I’m so glad I won this and got the chance to reignite my love of fantasy. Tragedy is everything fantasy should be and I can’t wait to see how the sequels play out.
Knowing Dr. Sydney Cooper, the author of Tragedy, gives this reader an insiders look into this compelling read. While the setting is another demension, the story reflects an all to real personal tragedy that the writer would emerge victorious from. This book is very well written, exciting and transends itself into a universal truth of the strength and spirit of a good soul.
